1. About this notice
This notice explains how The Legacy Briefs ("we", "us") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal data under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 ("PDPA"). It applies to readers of this website, subscribers to the Private Subscriber Briefing, people who contact us or book a session, and people we work with under a separate engagement.
2. Personal data we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Subscribers: your name, email address and how you describe yourself as a reader.
- Enquiries and bookings: your name, contact details and anything you choose to tell us about your question.
- Sessions: your name, email address and, if you provide it, your phone number; and any responses you give to live polls or feedback forms.
- Engagements: information needed for the work you ask us to do, which may include details of your family, your assets and how they are held. We collect only what the work requires.
- Website use: technical information such as browser type, pages visited and approximate location, collected through our hosting and analytics providers.
3. How we use it
We use personal data to:
- send the Private Subscriber Briefing and related updates you have asked for;
- respond to enquiries and arrange conversations, sessions and walkthroughs;
- carry out work you have engaged us to do;
- make an introduction to a third-party professional, but only after you have agreed to that introduction;
- understand how the website is used, so we can improve it; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
We do not sell personal data.
4. Consent and withdrawal
We collect, use and disclose personal data with your consent, or where the PDPA otherwise permits. You can withdraw consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in any email or by writing to our Data Protection Officer (section 11). We will process a withdrawal within a reasonable time and tell you if it affects anything we are doing for you. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that the law permits or requires without consent.
5. Who we disclose it to
We disclose personal data only to:
- service providers who help us run the publication, including email delivery (Kit), website hosting and form handling (Cloudflare Pages and Pages Functions), scheduling (Microsoft Bookings, operated by Microsoft), email enquiries and feedback (Microsoft 365), and analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics);
- a professional firm you have agreed to be introduced to; and
- authorities or other parties where the law requires it.
6. Transfers outside Singapore
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Singapore, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred overseas, we take steps to ensure it receives a standard of protection comparable to the PDPA, as the PDPA requires.
7. Cookies and analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand how the website is used. It collects information such as pages visited and approximate location. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings.
8. Access and correction
You may ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, information about how it has been used or disclosed in the past year, or a correction. Write to our Data Protection Officer. We may charge a reasonable fee for an access request and will tell you the amount before proceeding. We aim to respond within 30 days, and if we cannot, we will tell you when we will be able to.
9. Protection and retention
We use reasonable security arrangements to protect personal data, including access controls and multi-factor authentication on the services we use. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please do not send passwords, account numbers or identity documents by email.
We keep personal data only for as long as it serves the purpose it was collected for, or as the law requires, and then delete it or anonymise it.
